France
The Lot River
The Lot River is France’s most popular fishing holiday destination along the commercial waterways. The Lot is more than just a holiday route, as the canals here are fed from from the inland rivers. The water here is not as contaminated or polluted as the other canals in France as it is naturally cleaned by the currents. As a result, freshwater fish are abundant along this route, with many fishing enthusiasts flocking in for catches such as perch, pike, carp and catfish. These local fish also feature on many of the local menus in this region.

Charente
The Charente River is known for its famous attraction; cognac. The river is fed by the fresh sea currents for the Bay of Biscay and is abundant with plenty of flora and fauna. Plenty of fresh water fish have made the scenic Charente River their home and form a vital part to the area’s rich eco-system. Those wanting a fishing trip here can enjoy the best spots anywhere as it’s a fishing free zone, but you will also delight in sitting along the town’s quays after a long day exploring. Charente is home to many species including roach, bream, chub, bleak, pike and silur. Don’t forget to add a bottle of fine wine or cognac to that dinner!

The waterways of the Franche Conmte comprises of many rivers which are home to species such as trout and grayling a well as the mysterious Coregone. The main fishing and angling areas are around the Haute-Saone which offers recreational fishing. This region is well known for its incredible wine and food so you won’t have a problem pairing it with the right blend and dessert!

Ireland
The Shannon and Erne Rivers
The Shannon-Erne waterways teem with freshwater life that make it an excellent fishing vacation. The most popular fishing area along the canal is Roosky. Roosky is a wonderful holiday spot where outdoor enthusiasts enjoy the pristine wooded areas, walking trails, water sports and canal fishing. Fishing areas are restricted along these waterways, but anglers can expect to find bream, rudd and roach.

Scotland
Caledonian Canal
Fishing along the beautiful Caledonian Canal is another favourite with holiday makers in the region and from all over. Fishing along the Caledonian will require permits and there are strict rules to protect the area’s natural environment. Most fishing allowed on the Caledonian is recreational and limited to specific species at allocated lochs. Fishing here is a slow and relaxing activity and perfect to take in those beautiful landscapes of the Scottish Highlands.

Germany
Mecklenburg Region
The Mecklenberg region in Germany is referred to as the land with a thousand lakes, and this is probably true! With fresh cold waters running into the rivers that wind themselves inland, the waterways of Germany have a vast variety of freshwater fish species. Visitors need to obtain tourist fishing licences before coming to Germany. Fishing places are strictly monitored and those coming to fish in the country must learn the types of fish breeds and what types of catches are allowed under the different legislations. The Mecklenburg region is beautiful and full of historical charm. Families will enjoy the variety of outdoor activities in the many nature reserves and recreational lakes.

Canada
The Rideau Canal
Canada is known for its beautiful untouched natural environment and embracing the great outdoors. With a wide variety of reserve parks, soaring mountains and great lakes it makes our list as a top fishing destination! The clear and clean waters of the Rideau are home to a vast array of fresh water fish such as yellow perch, bass, pickerel and pike. Notable spots for recreational fishing and angling are Westport and Murphy’s Point Provincial Park. Make sure you obtain your licence before leaving for Canada and adhere to the designated zones and seasons.
